Summary
Beethoven asks Sebastian Mayer to carefully rehearse with the choir and orchestra for the coming performance of Leonore (second version). These rehearsals are necessary because the performance the previous Saturday had not been satisfactory. Yet he had not had enough time to rehearse the opera, as Freiherr von Braun, the owner of the Theater an der Wien, had threatened to strike it if this performance did not take place.
Beethoven encloses two textbooks, one of which is for the singer Röckel.
