Summary
Beethoven thanks Therese Brunsvik for her portrait which she has sent him. This is probably the copy of a portrait by Johann Baptist Lampis the elder, today in the Beethoven-Haus collection, B 206. Therese Brunsvik had written the following dedication on the back of the picture, "To the rare genius / the great artist / the good person / from T.B.". At the same time Beethoven asks Therese whether she can send him a replacement of the small picture which he has lost "Ein Adler sah in die Sonne" ("An eagle looked into the sun"), which she had once painted for him.
