Summary
Ignaz von Gleichenstein had helped Beethoven with his negotiations for his lifelong annuity from Princes Lobkowitz and Kinsky and Archduke Rudolph at the beginning of 1809. However before the agreement was finalized, Gleichenstein was obliged to leave Vienna on a secret mission. Beethoven obviously sent his friend a copy of the now finalized annuity agreement with this letter for his information (today no longer enclosed). Due to the brewing war Beethoven asks his advice as to whether he should go ahead with his planned concert tour and asks whether he can still count on Gleichenstein accompanying him. Financially secure thanks to the annuity agreement, Beethoven seriously considers settling down: he asks his friend to keep an eye open for a wife for him in Freiburg.
