Summary
Beethoven expects a visit from his friend Bernard this coming Wednesday and asks him to bring his nephew Karl with him.
Beethoven then discusses his plans to send Karl to Aloys Weißenbach's school in Salzburg to prevent him from having any contact with his mother. He asks Bernard to maintain absolute secrecy.
Afterwards Beethoven tells him about his forthcoming move and asks Bernard to check whether the rented apartment is already empty so that it can be painted. Should Bernard not be able to help in this matter, he asks him to talk to the publisher Steiner as he has already helped once with a move. He urges him to hurry.
Beethoven complains about the fact that he has still not had any letter from Karl. He thinks this is because of ill will, attributing it to the boy's contact with his disreputable mother, whose "plague poison" has infected Karl.
He ends the letter with the assurance that he is expecting Bernard, Weißenbach and Karl. He promises to reimburse the costs for the journey to Mödling.
