Summary
Beethoven complains to Amalie Sebald that his health is not improving, he is still bedridden. He writes, "if I were able to express my thoughts on my illness in such distinctive signs as my thoughts in music, I would soon be able to help myself".
Beethoven became acquainted with the Berlin singer Amalie Sebald when he was taking the waters in Teplitz in 1812 and they became friends. When he fell ill in September 1812 and had to stay in bed for a few days, he wrote several such notes to her, which bear witness to their close friendship. They do not, however, point to a love affair and this was also certainly also never the case.
