Summary
After he had already written to the Philharmonic Society, Beethoven also turns to Sir George Smart personally only three weeks before his death. As early as 1816/17 there had been talk of an academy in London for Beethoven's benefit. On account of his long illness and his resulting inability to work Beethoven was very concerned about earning his living and so now asks Smart to organize the long-planned benefit concert on his behalf.
