Summary
Maria Anna Wilhelmine von Westerholt was probably the young lady about whom Wegeler wrote in his "Biographischen Notizen über Ludwig van Beethoven", "Following this [Beethoven's first love] the most loving affection arose for a beautiful and good young woman v. W., a Werther love about which Bernhard Romberg recounted anecdotes to me three years ago. This love came, however, in Beethoven's transitional years and left faint traces, as faint as those awoken in the beautiful woman."
