Summary
Johanna van Beethoven, the composer's sister-in-law and widow of his brother Kaspar Karl, was notoriously hard-up. Johanna had not settled the payment of interest on a previous loan as laid down in the promissory note - the loan itself had already been paid back. It was Ludwig van Beethoven who finally undertook this.
