Summary
Directly before his death Kaspar Karl van Beethoven added a codicil to his will. In the will he had stated that Ludwig van Beethoven was to be Karl's sole guardian. In the codicil he revokes this; he now states that his son Karl should no longer be separated from his mother and that Johanna van Beethoven, the child's mother, should be co-guardian with Ludwig van Beethoven.
