Summary
In this petition to the Elector Maximilian Franz Beethoven's father complains that supposed gifts to the State Minister von Belderbusch have not been returned, which has led to his material poverty (Johann had made these "gifts" so as to receive the post of court musical director). He asks the elector to demand that Belderbusch's heirs return them. The signature of the lawyer Phenning from Honnef is clearly forged - in a later explanation in his own hand Phenning distances himself from this letter. The supposed gifts and their value are detailed in two enclosed lists.
