Summary
Beethoven declines to pay his copyist Gebauer. Beethoven writes that he is not responsible for this but the theatre management. According to the BGA the note was probably written in connection with the first performance of Fidelio (Leonore) in autumn 1805 because an obligation to pay costs can only have occurred in connection with a performance.
