Summary
Beethoven sends his publisher Steiner the Quintet op. 104 (an arrangement of the Trio op. 1,3). This arrangement was occasioned by Joseph Kaufmann's version which Beethoven thought was appalling. Beethoven gives the publisher the quintet as a present, but in return asks for credit some time or other. Later he obviously changed his decision as op. 104 was in the end published by Artaria & Comp.
