Abstract: In 1889, when the sale and demolition of Beethoven's birthplace in Bonngasse looked imminent, the Beethoven-Haus Society Bonn was formed. The society purchased the house and decided to create a Beethoven memorial where exhibitions, concerts, etc. could be held. From the beginning a central matter of concern for the society was the collection of manuscripts, prints, pictures and other Beethoven memorabilia. In 1927, the centenary of Beethoven's death, the Beethoven-Archiv was established as a foundation, with the task of carrying out academic research on the objects in the collection. After the war, it also set upon the task of producing a new complete edition of Beethoven's works. The publication here offers a chronological history of the society as well as details of its activities. It also includes a detailed contribution on Beethoven's last grand piano by Conrad Graf, which was bought in the year the society was founded and restored in 1963. In the anniversary year 1964 it was once again presented to the public.
