In 2001 the Beethoven-Haus, supported by the service companies SRZ from Berlin and eps from Bonn, started digitalising 26,000 pages of handwritten music sheet, letters, first editions, pictures and objects. The digital master data (tif format) generated by high-quality scanning (48 Bit, RGB, ICC profile) using a scanner from Cruse in Rheinbach are the 4.3 terabyte large basis (7,900 CDs, 1,300 DVDs) for specific ways of usage offered within and by the Digital Archive. Colour fidelity and long-time storage were especially important when choosing the digitalisation method.
