I have cousins who moved to Koln Germany. They send e-mails of where they venture. Beethoven-Haus was one of
the places they toured. Both sets of my Great-grandparents
were from Germany. My mat-grandmother's Great Grandfather was the mayor of octon Not spelled correctly

I love the virtual museum! One day I'll visit in person. Classic fm radio station has launched it's annual Hall of Fame voting to choose our favourite music and composers. If you love Beethoven go to the website (anyone can vote)and vote for his music let him beat Mozart this year! He deserves this. He really is the greatest of all, what more is there we can say? Love him so much!

Excellent place to visit, all the information in the rooms is in German but you can hire a hand held audio thing for English for 2 euros with a 5 euro deposit, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, interesting but sad at the same time, his death mask is quite spooky, lots to see in various rooms (with very squeaky floorboards)his instruments, manuscripts, pictures around the house are lovely and even a lock of his hair is one of the exhibits,

also da Beethoven der einzige Musiker ist, der im bereich der Klassik(also nicht die Zeitepoche sondern allgemein[vgl. Rock,Pop]) wirklich gute und interressante musik gemacht hat, fand ich dis Museum ganz gut(geht besser, aba ganz gut)... also einzige weitere Bemerkung: man hätte noch in jedem Raum Musik von ihm spielen können, zur "klassischen" Untermalung ;-) lg B.B.

Dieses Museum war indertat gut.Ich habe noch nie an einem Tag so viel gellernt.Ich würde sagen jeder Mensch sollte mal hier rein. Aber am interresantesten fande ich in der Tat das man die Führung so interresant war.Für kinder interessant und spanend.Die Beine tatem einem nicht weh vom vielen stehen. Wenn man eine frage hatte wurde diese beantwortet. Es ist ein guter Ort für einen Familien oder Freunden Ausflug.

Heute war ich mit meiner Klasse und unseren Austauschpartnern aus Frankreich hier im Beethoven hause.
Meine Klasse und ich kommen aus Neunkirchen und unsere Austtaschpartner aus Mulhouse das liegt in Frankreich, in der Nähe vom Schwarzwald.
Zuerst waren wir im Keller an der Bühne und haben uns den 3D-Film angesehn den wo wir die Personen sekber bewegen konnten. Das war serh interessant und dabei habe ich auch noch eine Oper kennen gelernt ich ich noch nicht gekannt habe.
Nachdem sind wir rüber ins Haus gegangen und eine nette Frau hat uns etwas über Beethoven und das Haus mit den ausgestellten Stücken erzählt. Danach haben wir dann das Haus besichtigt und konnten manche Dinge auch wiedererkennen über die uns die freundliche Frau uns schon etwas erzählt hatte.
Bei der Besichtigung von dem Haus viel einem auch schnell auf das die Leute früher noch nicht so viel Erfahrung mit dem Bauen hatte da die Treppen, Böden und Wände etwas schief und nicht immer gleich groß waren.
Trotzdem hat es uns sehr gefallen.

Ich war heute mit dem Schüeleraustausch (Neunkirchen/Mulhouse) im Beethoven Haus. Der 3D-Film hat mir sehr spaß gemacht, besonders, da man sich sekber dran beteiligen kann. && auch die Ausstellung ist sehr interressant. Besonders die alten Instrumente haben mich interressiert. Schade fand ich es allerdings, dass man nicht erfahren hat,wie sie gemacht wurden. Nun ja. Gehört ja nicht zu Beethoven. Die Französischen-Austauschschüler haben getrennt von uns eine Führung gemacht. Wir Deutschen waren zu erst bei dem 3D Film. Nebenbei haben die Franzosen sich die ausstellung angeguckt. Anschließend haben dann die Franzosen sich mit dem Film begnügt und wir haben uns die Ausstellung angefguckt.Ich hoffe,dass alle so viel spaß hatten wie wir.

Somehow suspiciouns floats in my mind. Why do they restrict the visiters from taking photos in here? They should bare in their mind people WILL take pictures for themselves. If their reason is because they want to sell out their book, that is just pathetic. I actually regret spending 10euro for my family. It was pleasant to see some of his work and original instruments but the atmosphere is totally dry. *brain says= was it really worth it to fly over here to get such cold shoulders from people here? are they just taking advantage over his fame?* Well whatever their ridiculous reason is, i still love you LVB. but sorry this is the last time im coming here.

Visiting from my living room in the USA, working on a research paper on Beethoven for school. So happy to have found this website—actually it's more of a fascinating distraction from my work but I'm really loving it!! Especially love the photos of the letters from Beethoven and the friends whom I've been reading so much about. Hope to visit the haus in Bonn some day to see them for myself. Thank you for providing this site for the world.

Ich finde es ganz besonders herausragend, daß ein Haus wie unser Bonner Beethovenhaus an Ostersonntag für Gäste aus aller Welt verschlossen bleibt. Die Stadt Bonn ist auf einem guten Weg zu einer Weltstadt aufzusteigen. Da muß mein Besuch aus China halt nochmal wiederkommen.

Ludwig van Beethoven ist der Titan der Musik. Das Beethoven Haus zeichnet in einer inpulsanten Ausstellung das Leben des Komponisten nach. Einen wirklich tollen Eindruck kann hier jeder bekommen, ob klassik Fan oder eben als Musikmuffel. Die einzelnen Exponate vorallem die Handschriften Beethovens versetzen den Museumsbesucher ins Staunen. Oder die Ausgestellten Hörapparate die Beethoven im Kampf seiner Taubheit benutzte, dürften jeden Medizinstudenten beeindrucken. Eine wirklich ausserordentliche Gedenkstätte. Man meint man wäre in eine andere Zeit gelandet wenn man das Haus als Museumsbesucher erkundet.

since i was 11 i admired beethovens music (the ultimate inspiring first ever rock musician,he became my motivation to start playing the piano while entering adolescence)..it was the time that i was introduced to the moonlight sonata..followed by the patetica..then the appasionata.now i m 17 and preparing for my postgraduate diploma examinations in less than a year with the appasionata(piano in flames) and the emperor concerto in my exam programm..i live in greece so..this site was kind of a key to his lifepresence,along with his mythpresence in the music i join nearly every afternoon..
p.s next summer probably i ll fly there-(fingers crossed)cause my parents dont understand much about music...:(

The staff and assistants were very helpful pleasant - nothing too much trouble.
It would be of interest to be able to access text etc which described aspects of Beethoven's everyday life, especially with reference to some of the exhibited artifacts. eg was he addicted to coffee (as well as wine!), when did he start wearing glasses and who supplied or made them for him? etc
Despite everything... it all comes down to the (wonderful) music.

It would be useful if more of the text by the various artifacts in the museum was in english...the audiotour is great but it doesnt really explain what one is seeing very well.

Ich bin 21 Jahre das ist mein erster Urlaub ganz alleine und mein erster Museumsbesuch den ich alleine mach und ich finds deshalb scho volle schön so alles anzusehen und zu lesen ohne sich gedanken machen zu müssen ob den anderen es gefällt und ob ich mich beeilen muss oder nicht.
Das Museum selber und der Aufbau der Austellung find ich Klasse!

it is one of the most interesting museums dedicated to individual artist or people of importance, that i have visited. It could have been very boring. But the museum has done an excellent work (especially the audioguide and digital archive!) My original plan was 1 hour here, but now, it's already been three hours!
It regains my interest to pick up my instrument and play, or simply, my CDs to listen.

Guten Tag,
Letzten Samstag (2.10.04) besuchte ich das Beethovenhaus. Dabei fiel mir auf, dass zum einen sehr viele ausländische Besucher anwesend waren (z.B. auch Japaner), zum anderen aber die Ausstellungsbeschriftung nur in deutsch verfasst ist, was im Rest der Welt eher selten verstanden wird. Ich denke, dass das gerade für ein Haus mit dem Anspruch, das Leben Beethovens bekannt zu machen, dass gleichzeitig aber viele Besucher aus dem Ausland hat, ein einigermassen peinlicher Auftritt ist. Noch peinlicher ist, wenn die einzigen Übersetzungen für das Schild "Bitte nicht berühren" und den Hinweis auf den Verkauf einer CD vorhanden sind.
Ich sprach daraufhin eine Aufsichtsperson und die Kassiererin an, die mir die Auskunft gaben, wegen diesem Thema gebe es täglich viele Beschwerden, der Direktor würde sich aber dagegen stur stellen. Ich bin der Ansicht, dass dieser Direktor in diesem Bereich nicht qualifiziert für seine Aufgabe ist, sonst hätte er begriffen, dass ein Grossteil seiner zahlenden Besucher mit den Schildern in der Ausstellung nichts anfangen kann. Wenigstens eine Übersetzung in der Weltsprache Englisch ist internationaler Standard in allen Museen und Ausstellungen der Welt und sollte auch für das Beethovenhaus und seine Ausstellungsstücke verfasst werden. So verfestigt sich leider wieder mal das Klischee von der Rückständigkeit der Dienstleistungswüste Deutschland. Eine solche Verbesserung, die den Eindruck eines unterentwickelten Landes, das es nicht nötig hat, international verstanden zu werden, beseitigen würde, ist auch relativ simpel zu bewerkstelligen.
In der Hoffnung, dass diese Zuschrift an die richtige Stelle kommt und zu Veränderungen führt, verbleibe ich

Sehr geehrter Herr Maier,
vielen Dank für Ihren Eintrag im Gästebuch und den Erfahrungsbericht über einen Besuch im Beethoven-Haus, der mich natürlich interessiert.
Wir haben Ihre Frage im Zusammenhang mit der Neugestaltung der Dauerausstellung im Zuge der Restaurierung des Geburtshauses 1994-1996 sehr genau überlegt. Wir sind zu dem Ergebnis gekommen, daß es angesichts 70% ausländischer Besucher aus aller Welt und allen Sprachräumen unmöglich ist und die Aura des authentischen Gebäudes bzw. der einzelnen Exponate durch eine Schilderflut massiv leiden würde, wenn man mehrsprachige Beschriftungen anbringt. Stattdessen haben wir in nicht weniger als 11 verschiedenen Sprachen gedruckte Kurzführer, die jeder Besucher kostenlos ausgehändigt bekommt, in denen alle wichtigen Informationen enthalten sind. Es täte mir leid, wenn Sie bzw. andere Gäste aus mir unerfindlichen Gründen einen solchen Führer in ihrer Muttersprache nicht erhalten oder gewollt hätten. Wir liefern ihn gerne nach, wenn dem so wäre.
Schon aus der Anzahl der verschiedenen Führer erkennen Sie, daß wir auf die Internationalität unserer Besucher im besonderen Maße eingehen. Auch die Audioführer, die es im nächsten Jahr geben wird, werden in deutsch, englisch, französisch und japanisch angeboten werden. Es ist uns ein besonderes Anliegen, durch Beethoven Menschen aus allen Ländern zusammenzuführen und nicht zu trennen.
